B3 Cricket was founded in 2012 by Michael Blatherwick, Russell Evans, and Dr. David Bacon.
Russell and David worked for Gunn & Moore (GM) for 7 and 20 years, respectively, and were involved in pioneering the use of CAD (computer aided design) and specialist CNC (computer numerically controlled) machines in the manufacture of cricket bats. This was brilliant for mass production and enabled GM to compete with cheap Asian labour. However, the top pros still needed a more individually tailored custom service.
This provoked the light bulb moment for the birth of B3 and the understanding that if the technology was adapted to make individual bats – it could give every player more choice and control on designing and making their cricket bat.
