A Customer Story

December 17, 2021

Women’s and girls’ cricket is growing fast! The Hundred gave a real boost to female cricket in terms of exposure and here at B3 we are making bats for an increasing number of women and girl players.

This customer story focuses on a young lady from Staffordshire, Matilda Atherton Gater.

Matilda, who is 13 years old, first became interested in cricket as a 5-year-old when her Mum took her along to their local cricket club in Stoke-on-Trent. By the time she was 8, she was playing in age group cricket 2 years her senior and even had a few games with the under 12’s.

Matilda’s mum (Vanessa) explains how her cricket developed, “Matilda loves playing sport and seems to have a natural talent in whatever she plays, but her real passion is cricket.”

“We were recommended to B3 by a girl at Porthill CC, Lenny Sims. When we visited B3’s factory showroom in Nottingham, we were blown away by the facilities, the service and the quality of the bats and kit”.

In January 2019, Matilda was given a Sports Scholarship at Abbotsholme School in Uttoxeter. This provides the brilliant opportunity to combine her academic studies with her enthusiasm for cricket and other sports.

Last season, Matilda played for moved to Newcastle and Harthill CC where she played for the U12’s & 13’s and some senior cricket. She also plays for Porthill Park CC who have a real focus on women’s cricket. In 2021 Matilda played for Porthills women’s second team and the ECB Lady Taverners U13’s.

Matilda has made great progress in the last couple of years with scoring several half centuries opening the batting with a highest personal best score of 80 against Appleton CC.

Congratulations to Matilda on her fantastic progress and we look forward to sharing your cricket journey. With your talent, enthusiasm along with great B3 bats and kit, the sky is the limit!
